Context
The landscape for Prairie Creek Branch Library connected a civic building to a remnant natural setting through Blackland Prairie planting, expressive drainage, and gabion elements. The project joined ecological intent with the practical demands of a public facility.
My role
My documented work spanned construction documents, specifications, bid support, LEED submittals, plant sourcing and nursery tagging, RFIs and ASIs, gabion research and mock-up review, grading and erosion coordination, site visits, field reports, and final punch work.
Design challenge
The landscape had to translate an ecological concept into durable public construction. Grading, erosion, plant availability, drainage, material tolerances, budget, accessibility, and contractor coordination all affected the outcome.
Approach
The team made water and site processes visible through landform, planting, and gabion construction. Design intent was carried from documents into field observation, material review, plant procurement, and final implementation.
Result
The landscape was constructed and opened with the library. The archive documents the complete arc from rendered plan and technical details through construction observation and completed-work photography.
Looking back
Prairie Creek is the clearest early example of my interest in implementation: a good idea only becomes real when design, procurement, construction, and operations stay connected.
